Prototype and Bulk Production: Same Facility?

A buyer asked a very practical sourcing question: would the sample room and the later bulk order stay in the same facility?

What was confirmed in this project?

The supplier confirmed that the prototype/sample room and the bulk production would use the same factory or facility for that program.

The question came before sampling

It came up with the other pre-sample checks. The buyer wanted the production route clear before approving development, rather than discovering after sampling that bulk would be handed somewhere else.

What we confirmed for that program

For that program, we confirmed that sample development and bulk production would stay in the same facility. The reason for recording this is simple: facility continuity can matter to a buyer, and it is better to confirm it for the actual order than assume it.

A useful question to put in the brief

Before paying for a sample, ask where the sample will be made, where bulk will be made, and whether either stage is subcontracted to another facility. The answer should be specific to the program being quoted.
